Why I love working at a mid-sized firm
October 22, 2015
There are many decisions to make when going through the recruiting process. Most people have difficulty deciding between audit and tax, but that was honestly the easiest part for me. I knew that I wanted to live in the city and come into the office most days (though I do enjoy the occasional trip out to the client site). I struggled most when it came to choosing the size of the firm. I’m glad I chose a mid-sized firm for the following reasons:
- People: I have gotten to know everyone at PKM, even those outside of the tax department, on a personal level. What made PKM such a good fit for me was definitely the people. I genuinely get excited to go to work every day because I get to work alongside people that I truly consider my friends.
- Variety: I see a lot of variety in my work on a day-to-day basis. I am working on both the compliance and consulting aspects of tax. I work with large corporations across multiple industries as well as small businesses and individuals. Every project is new and exciting and I feel challenged every day. I never imagined I would learn so much my first year out of school.
- Experience: One of the things that surprised me most during my internship was that I got to see projects through from start to finish. My second week on the job, I was already preparing a tax return on my own. I felt such a sense of accomplishment when I completed the return and it was delivered to the client, and I still feel that way today.
At the end of the day, it all comes down to personal preference, but I can honestly say that I couldn’t be happier with my decision to work at PKM.
