Welcome to the “Real World”

A strange thing occurs after you graduate college, step out into the world and get your first job in your field. You realize that you are being assigned work and dealing with problems that were never covered by the pristine multi-choice questions or 200 word essays from your alma mater. In fact, it seems like very few of the things you just spent 4+ years learning have much merit now that you are out in the “real world”.

One of the things that attracted me the most to PKM when I was interviewing was their desire to help me grow as a business person. They were eager to help me expand beyond my existing skill sets and learn some of the intangible aspects of the business world such as client service, networking, service development and sale negotiations.

Despite only being at PKM less than a year, each supervisor and partner in my group has had a hand in helping me increase my business accumen in all the areas I needed a mentoring hand in. I’ve been brought into conversations typically outside of my level, helped in pitching work and even got to play an important role in developing the firm’s Digital Business consulting service.

I am very appreciative of the time and energy PKM has spent providing mentorship and grooming me into becoming a better businessman and acquire the skills needed to succeed in the “real world”.
