Networking Events with the Systems Group
February 14, 2017
At PKM we don’t just work together, we network together! Recently I have been trying to get more involved in networking and started going to Women in Technology (WIT) and the Georgia Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (GACFE) events as well as volunteering. Going to an event when you don’t know anyone can feel overwhelming. Luckily, in the Systems group, when I ask other team members if they are interested in going, it’s an immediate yes!
For the last three months, Anna-Kay Sterling and Joan Mbithi within the Systems group attended both WIT Forums as well as an awards ceremony. At the forum events, we had the chance to have breakfast with women from various industries involved in technology. The speakers provide insight on their experience, what it takes to be successful, as well as how to develop a personal brand. Not only am I lucky that PKM supports its employees going to these types of events, but that my team members are truly excited and get value from the speakers as well as the participants. We also learn the tricks of the trade including showing up early to get a seat and how to be first in line for the delicious breakfast.
Roscoe Douglas and Anna-Kay Sterling attended the GACFE luncheon with me this past month. The event provided continued education credit including the overview of an FBI computer forensic case that proved very interesting. After leaving the event, we went back to the office and talked about how interesting the case was as well as plans to attend future events. Not only did we get to have a nice lunch together, but we were able to meet leaders in the industry.
Whatever your interest, it is comforting to know that your team has your back. I look forward to going to more events to meet new people as well as to spend time with my team!
