Making the most of your first busy season
July 5, 2012
In public accounting, busy season is a time full of opportunities. As a first year staff, at PKM, a leading accounting firm in Atlanta, I’ve had the opportunity to experience the immense growth that occurs during a first busy season. I’d like to share some tips to make the most out of your first busy season:
- Don’t be afraid to ask questions – Co-workers and in-charges expect and welcome questions. You’ll never learn if you don’t ask questions.
- Be organized – It’s important to balance work life. More likely than not you will have competing priorities. It’s important to have a task list and stay on top of deadlines. In the haste of completing engagements, being unorganized can lead things to slip through the cracks.
- Don’t forget to take care of yourself – Although we work longer hours during busy season it’s important to make time for a good night’s sleep, family and friends. You won’t be able to take care of your client if you don’t take care of yourself first.
Your first busy season may be a bit overwhelming but if you make the best out it, the experience will be invaluable.
