“Keeping it Taxy”
September 19, 2011
Every few months, I get together with former PKMers, for an event that we call, “Keeping it Taxy.” We go dinner or happy hour and catch-up. I look forward to these events because it always happens right after busy season. Also, it is nice to hang out with others who get me and understand what I do. Often, I have been given advice to keep in contact with former colleagues. This is the first step and an easy way to build your professional network. There are many benefits with keeping in touch, among them being: guidance in your career, a resource for technical issues in which you are unfamiliar or referral of your firm’s services. In my 4 years at PKM, I have learned that many of our clients are with us because someone kept in touch. Next time you are at a business convention or association meeting and you spark up a conversation with the person sitting next to you, think to yourself, will it be valuable to have this person in your network? If so, trade business cards. You never know when it might pay off.
