It’s Not All Work
October 4, 2012
One of the things I learned, in my first year at PKM, is that it is not all work and no play. The firm likes to get out and have fun and it does this in a number of ways. Sometimes it is a firm wide event such as a day spent zip lining or boating on the lake, or it can be just the audit group getting together for an afternoon of Whirly Ball. Other times it is a “Buddy Outing” where a few newer PKMers take in a nice steak dinner at Rathbuns or an “Accountability Team” (a small group of PKMers led by a partner) event where you catch a rock concert at the Tabernacle. I should also mention that our clients love to have fun too. Over the past 12 months I have been out with our clients more times than I can count, but I have to say the highlight for me was going with a client to see the Green Bay Packers play at Lambeau Field. Now that was an experience.
So, why is doing all these things so important? First, it is a way for the firm to reward its employees for all their hard work and lets everyone recharge their batteries. Second, it provides an opportunity for the employees at the firm to get to know one another in a more relaxed environment. When you spend a lot of time out of town with your coworkers, you develop personal relationships with them that makes the experience all the more productive and enjoyable. Finally, it exposes you to people, places and things you might not otherwise experience which makes you more well-rounded personally and professionally.
It is nice to work at a place that encourages its people to have fun and I know that this is one of the many reasons that PKM continues to be one of the best leading accounting firms to work for year after year. Here’s to another year of fun at PKM!
